A systematic review of phytochemicals in oat and buckwheat

Consumption of oat and buckwheat have been associated with various health benefits that may be attributed to their nutritional composition. We performed a systematic review evaluate the profile quantity bioactive compounds present in buckwheat. Among 154 studies included final analysis, 113 178 were reported buckwheat, respectively. Total phytosterols, tocols, flavonoids rutin content generally higher β-glucans significantly oat, while avenanthramides saponins characteristically oat. The majority current published before 2010s. heterogeneous methodological procedures used across precluded our possibility meta-analyse evidence raises need for harmonization separation extraction methods future studies. Our findings should further stimulate exploration metabolites related identified phytochemicals roles human health.
